The Best New Features on the Instagram Edits App (June 2025)
If you haven’t checked out the Instagram Edits app lately, now’s the time to give it another look. Since its quiet launch earlier this year, the app has undergone a huge transformation, adding powerful new tools that make it a serious competitor to the likes of CapCut and InShot.
In this post, I’m diving into the most exciting new features on the Edits app and why every content creator and social media manager should pay attention.
What Is the Instagram Edits App?
Instagram Edits is a free mobile video editing app released by Instagram to help creators produce high-quality Reels and Stories. It’s designed to rival other popular apps like CapCut and Beats, and at the time of writing, it’s still completely free to download and use (though Instagram has hinted this might not last forever!).
Whether you’re filming tutorials, behind-the-scenes clips, or trend-driven content, Edits is packed with tools to help your videos stand out.
What’s New in the Edits App?
Instagram has recently rolled out a wave of updates to the app. Here’s what’s been added:
1. Apply All Tool
One of the biggest time-savers, ‘Apply All’ lets you apply filters, effects, transitions, or colour adjustments to all your clips at once. No more repetitive edits!
2. Font Explosion
There are now 125 fonts to choose from, giving you more flexibility to match your brand’s aesthetic or experiment with trendy styles.
3. Voice Effects Galore
You can now choose from 15 voice effects, ideal for comedy, storytelling, or simply grabbing attention in a noisy feed.
4. Text Animations
There are 50 new text animations, letting your text fade, bounce, slide, or swirl onto the screen in style. With well-animated text becoming a trend in 2025, this update couldn’t have come at a better time.
How Does Edits Help You Design Smarter Videos?
Instagram has introduced something incredibly practical: Safe Zones.
These are yellow guidelines that show where channel furniture (like usernames, captions, buttons, and logos) may appear over your video. They help ensure your text and visuals aren’t hidden behind platform overlays.
This makes your content look more professional and user-friendly, especially important for branded or sponsored content.
How Can You Customise Transitions and Filters?
Edits now offers:
-
30 transitions
-
30 filters
That means more ways to make your content feel polished, unique, and on-brand. Whether you want a clean fade, trendy glitch, or cinematic flair, the tools are now at your fingertips.
Why Are Captions Still So Important?
Remember: most people watch videos with the sound off. That’s why Edits now includes more caption styles, giving you the flexibility to match your tone and branding.
Whether you’re narrating, lip-syncing, or presenting, it’s crucial to add captions for accessibility and engagement.
What’s the Beat Marker Feature and Why Does It Matter?
This is my favourite new feature—the Beat Marker.
If you’re using a piece of music with a clear rhythm, the app will auto-detect the beats so you can line up: Clips, Text, and Overlays… with the music perfectly.
This is brilliant for trending audio content, like the six-syllable trend or day-in-the-life montages where each clip syncs to the beat.
Can You Control Playback Smoothness?
Yes! You can now adjust your frame rate, giving you more control over how your videos play, making them smoother, sharper, and better suited to your editing style.
What About Visual Effects?
Edits now includes a growing library of video effects, like visual overlays and animations that add even more flair to your clips. Whether it’s a cinematic light leak or trendy blur, you can enhance your storytelling in seconds.
Final Thoughts
If you tried the app when it launched in April 2025 and weren’t impressed, it’s time to take another look. With significant improvements in just a few months, Edits is becoming an essential tool in every creator’s kit.
