Search Everywhere Optimisation: Why SEO in 2026 Goes Far Beyond Google

Dec 13, 2025

One of my favourite marketing phrases to emerge this year is Search Everywhere Optimisation. It perfectly captures what’s happening to SEO right now.

Search hasn’t disappeared, but it has expanded. In our Social Media Trends for 2026, I talked about how search behaviour is shifting away from being Google‑only and spreading across AI tools, social platforms, and content communities.

If your SEO strategy still only focuses on Google rankings, this is the year to rethink it.

What Is Search Everywhere Optimisation?

Search Everywhere Optimisation means making sure your brand is discoverable wherever people search, including:

  • Google and Bing

  • ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Gemini

  • TikTok and Instagram search

  • YouTube

  • Reddit, Quora, review sites, and forums

You might also hear terms like GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) or LLM optimisation, which focus specifically on being cited by AI tools. These matter, but Search Everywhere Optimisation goes further by fully including social media search too.

We’re Entering a Post‑Google World (Sort Of)

Google is still powerful, but behaviour is changing.

According to Gartner, traditional search is expected to decline by 25% as AI tools take over more discovery. Already, 7% of B2B buyers report using LLMs like ChatGPT during their buying journey.

And Harvard Business Review summed it up perfectly: Your customers aren’t just Googling anymore. They’re asking ChatGPT.

From personal experience, and conversations with marketers, many of us now instinctively open ChatGPT or social apps instead of Google when we want fast, useful answers.

Where Do AI Tools Get Their Information?

This is the crucial bit.

LLMs like ChatGPT and Perplexity don’t invent knowledge, they pull from trusted, high‑authority platforms, including: Reddit, Wikipedia, YouTube, Google, review sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor, forums such as Quora, social platforms including Instagram and LinkedIn, and podcasts.

This is why visibility across platforms matters so much. If your brand isn’t present in these spaces, AI won’t cite you, and that means you’re invisible to a growing segment of searchers.

Why YouTube and Social SEO Matter More Than Ever

YouTube is one of the most consistently cited platforms by AI tools, and it’s also the world’s second‑largest search engine.

We’ve seen fantastic results this year by:

  • Writing clear, keyword‑rich titles

  • Using detailed descriptions

  • Adding relevant tags

  • Linking to other platforms

  • Asking viewers to subscribe

That structure helps both humans and AI understand what your content is about, and it works.

SEO is evolving, not dying!

If AI isn’t citing you, your content may as well not exist in 2026. That’s why your SEO strategy for 2026 needs to cover:

  • Traditional search rankings

  • Social media search

  • AI citations

  • Referral traffic from LLMs

Structure is your secret weapon. Clear headings, concise answers, logical layout, and scannable content help both people and AI extract meaning from your content.

Your Reputation Is Everywhere

Search Everywhere Optimisation also means understanding how your brand is described across the internet. Look at:

  • Reddit threads

  • Review sites

  • Third‑party mentions

  • Social conversations

Use social listening to track your share of voice in AI responses, and monitor:

  • Referral traffic from ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity

  • Brand search growth in Google

  • Organic search trends over time

We’ve seen a clear increase in organic brand searches over the last 3-6 months by taking this approach seriously.

Final Thoughts

SEO in 2026 is no longer about ranking in one place. It’s about being findable everywhere, by people, platforms, and AI tools alike.

If you start building your Search Everywhere Optimisation strategy now, you’ll be far ahead of brands who are still only thinking about Google.
