Reddit tests TikTok-style video

Reddit, the home of text-based discussion, is experimenting with video.

The platform is testing vertical 9:16 posts, inspired by TikTok, to bring popular threads to life. It’s also using AI-generated voices to read out and animate summaries of posts and conversations. The aim is to let people listen to Reddit in the background while walking, exercising or driving, more like a podcast or YouTube Shorts.

We’re curious how Reddit’s community will react. Plenty of users love it precisely because it’s text-based, so AI voices reading their posts back could be a hard sell. We’ll be keeping an eye on it.
