Facebook Launches Passkeys: What You Need to Know About Meta’s New Security Update

Jun 28, 2025

Facebook Passkeys Are Here – A New Era of Account Security

If you’ve ever experienced the stress of losing access to your Facebook business account, this update is for you. Meta has rolled out passkeys, a major security upgrade designed to protect your account better than traditional passwords ever could.

Whether you’re a social media manager, content creator, or business owner, staying secure on Facebook is no longer optional. It’s essential.

What Are Facebook Passkeys?

Think of passkeys as your biometric login: your fingerprint, face scan, or a secure PIN replaces your usual password. You might be familiar with passkeys from online banking. Now, Meta is applying this tech across its platforms.

Benefits of passkeys:

  • Stronger protection against phishing and password attacks

  • Seamless login across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and more

  • Faster access without needing traditional passwords or SMS codes

Passkeys are now available on iOS and Android, with Messenger integration coming soon.

Why This Matters for Your Business?

If your Facebook business page is linked to one admin account and that person leaves, or worse, gets hacked, you could lose access entirely.

This happens more often than you think. Without passkeys or proper admin access through Meta Business Suite, retrieving your account can become a nightmare.

So here’s what to do:

  • Set up multiple admins via Meta Business Suite

  • Enable passkeys and two-factor authentication

  • Ensure login credentials are updated when staff changes

You can activate and manage your passkey from your Facebook Account Centre.

The Rise of Meta Verified – Is It Worth It?

The increasing number of reports about hacked, suspended, or banned accounts has left many users frustrated with Meta’s limited support. Unless, that is, you’re Meta Verified.

In June, TechCrunch reported a rise in locked-out users receiving no help unless they’re paying for Meta Verified. This has unfortunately given rise to a black market of brokers claiming to have “insider” access to restore accounts for thousands of pounds.

Clearly, the Meta Verified subscription is offering more than just a blue tick.

Meta Verified options now include:

  • Business Standard (£11.99/month) – Access to live support

  • Higher tiers – Priority support, links in Reels, and even call-backs from Meta agents

We’re currently trialling this at Avocado Social and will be sharing results soon. Watch this space.

Different Platforms, Different Link Strategies

It’s also worth noting that linking and login experiences vary across Meta platforms:

  • Facebook – Use passkeys; place links in comments to boost reach
  • Instagram – Passkeys + link-in-bio +
  • Reels links (Meta Verified only)
  • Threads – Passkeys coming soon; link insights now available
  • Messenger – Passkeys integration coming soon

Final Thought

Facebook passkeys are a game-changer for digital security. They offer a much needed upgrade in a world where platform hacks and fake recovery brokers are becoming far too common.

To stay secure:

  • Set up passkeys today

  • Regularly audit access to your Meta Business Suite

  • Consider Meta Verified, especially when you need faster support

If you’re not already using passkeys, now’s the time. Protect your brand, your data, and your digital presence.
